yämmi 2
360º industrial product design
The
context
yämmi is the Portuguese brand for the best-selling
kitchen robot in Portugal.
The challenge
Create from scratch a food
cooking machine that represent the ambitious sequel of the first
commercial success yämmi
1,
with enough,
reliability, cost and innovation to challenge in an international
context the world leader Vorwerk.
And making intentionally and
proudly use of only Portuguese:
design, engineering and production.
The
work
A
reflection on the object, its environment and the consequent integral
design of all the machine visible parts,
and its respective accessories (except blades).
We did
not intend to work for awards or design
publications,
but to a wide knowledgeable and very demanding public.
Who do not want a Ferrari in the
kitchen,
but an acessible object capable of satisfying their everyday needs in a most simple and effective way.
The inspiration
We have found with this project, that we are now smarter because we learn how to cook.
It looks like a poetic
concept very much in tune with the current times,
but it is in reality a
part of the theory for our evolution as species.
It was with cooked foods that we lose the suicidal dependence on our teeths,
and managing to survive to his early fall.
From that to the progressive decrease in is
size, was a small step of a few thousand years that turned out to
provide space
in our head to start increasing the braincase
and consequently the size of the brain itself …
It can be said that we are today,
factually,
smarter because we learn how to
cook.
The aspiration
Modern times, have increased the knowledge of cooking, but reduced the disponibility to cook. We can help that…
We have gradually replacing cooked food for processed and pre-cooked food.
And that is not good.
One of the main
motivations was undoubtedly be able to encourage people to reverse this
path.
I do not know if it was because of that, but the fact is I have started cooking with this project.
I don’t have the hope to getting smarter like our
ancestors, but I know for sure that my health
thanks that fact.
P.S.
We were never looking for a pretentious object, but
rather an even more ambitious objective.
We looked for what we call inclusive design,
or in other words, the ability to
understand and respond
to the largest possible, consumer needs.
Such as: accessible cost; desired features; friendly usability;
correct ergonomic suitability for all its
users, just to mention a few.
” we dont want an exclusive design,
we want a inclusive design .“
